about

‘Best Off Moving On’ with its upbeat country-flavour was commissioned to accompany the documentary ‘UTE-OPIA’, which has been made to celebrate the 60-year anniversary of the HOLDEN UTE.

lyrics

I’m trapped in a jam, not the sweet sounds of my dwelling
Busy streets & strange sheep parading
Detours brought me here, hope they can take me away
To a road I know, where the birds sit on the telegraph poles
More red lights than blue sky
When you look out the window something hits your eye

All I hope is the way this road is going to take me home
Like a stranger in a foreign place, I’ll be best off moving on

The trees are too few, too few & far between
Concrete jungle paved a paddock once I used to know
Picture pastures, gum nut babies in the trees
Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra, all your friends see the joke

The sun sets over the plains, not in between the shadows of the city lights
Crickets sing a tune of night, all I see is dogs-a-honking & traffic-a-barking
Fast lanes occupy a part of everyone, I think I’ll try & slow drive my way home

I’ll take this left turn, past the bridge, well maybe right
On the horizon line I see a sign of better things to come
Setting-a-changing, homesteads nestled in the valley
Miles to go but I’ll need it all, just to get my mind back on the right track

See my soul feels much better, not one minute after leaving it all
Set my sights on the comforts to which I have come to know

Cool lemonade sitting on the verandah
Red dust clouds rise above a sunset sky
Fields of green lie beside an open forest
Peoples’ warmth can change a blue day back into bright
Well, I’ve just got to find the place & I’ll know I’ll be alright
